The Kirov Ballet, one of the world's most renowned ballet companies, performs the beloved family holiday classic The Nutcracker, accompanied by the Kirov Orchestra. This fairy tale ballet, choreographed in 1934 by Vasily Vainonen, has dazzled audiences around the world and is a perfect way to celebrate the festive holiday season.

Filled with wonderment and child-like delight, Kirov's The Nutcracker features many of ballet's most exciting dancers including Irina Golub, Vladimir Schklyarov, Evgenia Obraztsova, and Igor Kolb. My take on it:

Yes, I happen to believe that Olesia Novikova competed for this promotion with Somova, along with few other talented ladies. But and here it is: I am absolutely convinced that Somova’s promotion was the right decision. See, one can teach a capable dancer good ballet skills. Vaganova teaches superior dancing skills. But Somova with that rare combination of natural gifts and charismatic stage presence, proved to be the winning factor. Education and training means a lot, yet natural talent counts even for more - this is something one is born or not born with.

Having said that, I believe that this position has been bestowed on Alina Somova in anticipation of her rapid improvement in areas of artistry and technique.
